Angel Reese Shatters WNBA Rebounding Records in Atlanta Dream's Victory

Angel Reese made history by breaking two WNBA rebounding records in a single game during the Atlanta Dream's 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday. Reese achieved an incredible 26 rebounds, surpassing Chamique Holdsclaw’s longstanding record of 24 rebounds set in May 2003 for Washington. This remarkable performance also pushed her season total to 458 rebounds, exceeding A’ja Wilson’s previous record of 451 rebounds set in 2024. After the game, Reese reflected, “Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit [anything] so I knew I was going to be able to get them on the rebounding side. I just want to be there for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win.” In addition to her rebounding prowess, Reese secured her WNBA-leading 27th double-double of the season with a crucial basket in the final seconds, finishing the game with 11 points. Allisha Gray, a guard for the Dream, expressed admiration for Reese's talent, stating, “I’m just in awe watching her rebound.” At just 24 years old, Reese is already a three-time WNBA All-Star and holds the rookie record for averaging 13.1 rebounds per game. She set the all-time league record with 15 straight double-doubles during her time with Chicago in 2024, and she leads the league again this season with an average of 12.4 rebounds per game. The Dream's victory on Monday capped off a successful 4-0 West Coast trip. Coach Karl Smesko praised Reese, noting, “Angel’s been remarkable on this trip. You can see her getting better each month.”
