Bangladesh Shines as Australia Faces Batting Woes in First Test
Australia and Bangladesh resumed their battle in the first Test from Darwin, with Bangladesh starting day two at 96-1, chasing Australia’s first innings total of 198. The opening day marked a significant moment for Bangladesh, showcasing their best Test performance to date, as their seam bowlers skillfully exploited the pitch. Australia, embarking on a challenging 12-month journey that includes series in South Africa and India, as well as the Ashes, faced unexpected scrutiny over their batting lineup. The team, traditionally known for its dominance, displayed alarming weaknesses, particularly in the techniques of Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne. Weatherald, nearing 32, has averaged just 22 across six Tests. Labuschagne, also 32, has not scored a century since 2023, averaging 25 in his last 22 matches.
