Cesar Peixoto Embraces New Era at Wolves, Leaving Past Struggles Behind

Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto is determined to shift focus towards the future as his squad leaves behind a challenging past. After taking over from Rob Edwards last month, Peixoto inherited a team that finished at the bottom of the Premier League last season, managing only three wins. Following a convincing 3-0 victory against Racing Santander in their final pre-season friendly, Peixoto expressed optimism about the team's renewed confidence. "It's a new era," he stated during an interview with BBC Radio WM. He emphasized, "The past is the past, so now we are going to build a present and a future for the club." In his first senior coaching role outside of Portugal, where he previously led Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in the Primeira Liga, Peixoto has encouraged his players to adopt an organized and attacking style of play. He believes the squad is adapting well to his methods, stating, "Since the first moment I talked with them and trained with them, all the players work very hard to try and do all I want from them." Wolves are set to kick off their season with an EFL Cup match against Port Vale on Friday, followed by their Championship opener against Blackburn the following week. Peixoto noted the team's physical and tactical growth, indicating a positive trajectory despite the need for further improvement. In terms of squad changes, Wolves have brought back striker Raul Jimenez and signed full-back Kieran Trippier before Edwards' departure, while winger Rafiki Said is the only signing made since Peixoto stepped in. He anticipates more transfer activity ahead of the September 1 deadline, acknowledging that delays are linked to the World Cup. Peixoto remains focused on maximizing the potential of his current players, stating, "The team works well, works hard and has a good spirit."
