Wales Celebrates Fourth Swimming Medal at Commonwealth Games with 4x200m Bronze
Wales secured its fourth Commonwealth Games medal in swimming as the 4x200m freestyle relay team clinched a bronze medal in Glasgow. The team, consisting of Matt Richards, Dan Jones, Kieran Bird, and Tyler Melbourne-Smith, followed up their earlier success in the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay, where they also won bronze, by beating the Scottish team to the podium. In this thrilling relay, Australia dominated, securing gold with a Commonwealth Games record time of 7 minutes and 1.47 seconds, while England took silver, finishing just under five seconds ahead of Wales. All of Wales' medals thus far have been achieved in the pool, including additional honors from Para-swimmers Ela Letton-Jones (silver) and Rhys Darbey (bronze). Despite these accomplishments, Wales has yet to capture that elusive gold medal after three days of competition. Expressing pride in their teamwork, Matt Richards stated, "It's such a special group… Seeing that Welsh flag go up when we're up on the podium is one of the highlights of my career so far." Tyler Melbourne-Smith, who previously faced disqualification in the 4x100m relay, reflected on the final leg of the race: "My adrenaline was rushing but it was just about keeping it for the last 50 metres… It's probably the best moment of my swimming career so far."
