Rangers Consider Derek McInnes as Danny Röhl Negotiations with RB Salzburg Progress

Rangers and RB Salzburg are in ongoing discussions to finalize a deal for Danny Röhl to join the Austrian Bundesliga club. Reports from Sky Sports News on Thursday indicated that Röhl’s departure would only be approved by the Ibrox chiefs if compensation terms were satisfied. Following a third-place finish last season, Rangers have been reviewing their managerial options since May, with Röhl initially receiving backing despite the team's struggles. Derek McInnes, the current boss of Hearts, has emerged as a potential candidate on the shortlist should Rangers allow Röhl to leave. McInnes had a successful first season at Tynecastle, leading the team to second place, narrowly missing out on the league title to Celtic on the final day. Previously, Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat, both respected figures in Rangers' history, had been in contention for the managerial role but stepped back prior to Röhl's appointment. Gerrard, who led Rangers to a title during his tenure, now manages Aston Villa, while Muscat currently leads Shanghai Port in the Chinese Super League, where he has enjoyed recent success. Salzburg is eager to appoint Röhl as the replacement for Daniel Beichler. However, any agreement hinges on meeting Rangers' terms, as Röhl still has two years remaining on his contract at Ibrox, having joined the club last October. Röhl, who previously assisted at RB Leipzig, Southampton, and Bayern Munich, took over at Rangers when they were sixth in the league and brought them into title contention, though they ultimately fell short. With pre-season testing for Rangers players set to begin next week, the club is also undergoing a summer rebuild, having secured Lawrence Shankland from Hearts as their first confirmed signing.
