Harry Brook Reclaims ICC Test Batting Crown as Travis Head Slips After Bangladesh Upset

England batter Harry Brook has soared back to the top of the ICC men's Test batting rankings, following a disappointing performance from Australia's Travis Head, who fell after a couple of low scores in their surprising Test defeat to Bangladesh. This marks Brook's fourth stint at No 1, coinciding with the start of a new era for England under returning captain Joe Root. The first Test of the three-match series against Pakistan is set to commence at Headingley, live on Sky Sports, starting from August 19. Brook first ascended to the top ranking in December 2024. In addition to Brook's rise, both Joe Root and Steve Smith have overtaken Head in the rankings. Smith's contributions of 71 and 44 runs during the Bangladesh defeat propelled him into third position. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto achieved a career-best 20th position after scoring 84 in his only innings, moving him up nine spots, surpassing notable players such as Ravindra Jadeja and Litton Das. Meanwhile, Cameron Green's century in the second innings allowed him to climb five positions to 30th. Despite being appointed as vice-captain, Brook was not selected for the England Test captaincy, which went to Root after Ben Stokes' retirement. Root emphasized the strong bond between him and Brook, stating, "Our relationship is exactly as it has been for a long time. Me and Harry are very good friends and get along well away from cricket, and clearly get the best out of each other when playing together."
