Maguire Set for England Recall as Garner Eyes First Call-Up Ahead of Friendlies

Harry Maguire is poised for an England recall ahead of the upcoming friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan. The Manchester United defender has not been part of any squad under head coach Thomas Tuchel since his appointment on January 1, 2025. Despite this, Maguire has been a vital player during Gareth Southgate's tenure, scoring seven goals in 64 international appearances. The friendly matches are scheduled for: Uruguay on March 27 at 19:45 at Wembley Japan on March 31 at 19:45 at Wembley Tuchel will announce his squad at 11:00 GMT. Meanwhile, Alex Scott, the Bournemouth midfielder, is expected to miss out on this selection. After receiving his first senior call-up in November for matches against Albania and Serbia, the 22-year-old will not be included this time. Scott's absence could pave the way for James Garner, the Everton midfielder, to make his debut in the England squad. Garner, 25, has had a standout season, contributing five assists and two goals while starting every game for the Toffees. Looking ahead, England has two additional friendlies scheduled for June against New Zealand and Costa Rica. They will kick off their summer World Cup campaign in the United States, Canada, and Mexico on June 17 against Croatia at 21:00 BST, followed by matches against Ghana on June 23 and Panama on June 27.
