New Zealand Rugby has officially denied involvement in Fehi Fineanganofo's potential reversal regarding his transfer to Newcastle Red Bulls for the upcoming season. The talented wing, who has matched the single-season Super Rugby record with 16 tries for the Hurricanes this year, was confirmed as one of Newcastle's signings back in January. Since then, Fineanganofo's impressive performances have caught the attention of New Zealand coach Dave Rennie, yet a move abroad would jeopardize the 23-year-old's eligibility for the All Blacks. A report surfaced last week suggesting that New Zealand rugby authorities found a way to retain Fineanganofo domestically, leading to frustration among Newcastle officials. In 2015, New Zealand Rugby had a precedent when they annulled Waisake Naholo's contract with Clermont Auvergne to keep him eligible for international selection. However, the union has clarified that they will not replicate this situation for Fineanganofo. Chief Executive Steve Lancaster stated, "We don't really do that. These are player choices."
