Keanna MacInnes Triumphs with Silver in 100m Butterfly at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
Keanna MacInnes faced her fears and nerves to secure a silver medal in the 100m butterfly final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Despite qualifying third fastest at Tollcross, the 24-year-old struggled with tension leading up to the event. After receiving encouraging advice from her coach Bradley Hay, MacInnes managed to channel her anxiety into performance. She improved her semi-final time by 0.35 seconds, finishing with a time of 57.33 seconds. In her own words, MacInnes expressed her pre-race struggles: "I was really struggling to get food down." "I was stressing about things like getting a medley relay slot instead of thinking about getting a medal tonight." With the crowd roaring, she executed a strong finish, overtaking South Africa's Erin Gallagher to claim her spot on the podium, while Australia's Alex Perkins took gold. Reflecting on her achievement, MacInnes stated, "Oh, God, I'm just starting to get my breath back. That was so incredible... A silver is crazy to me. Maybe I was thinking 'bronze could be really cool' so this is just so amazing." Alongside her were fellow Scots Ciara Schlosshan and Lucy Grieve, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Meanwhile, Duncan Scott, a seasoned competitor with 14 Games medals, experienced a mix of outcomes, including a gold in the 200m individual medley but also a fourth place in the 200m butterfly.
