Joe Burrow Sets Sights on 2028 Olympics After Flag Football Classic

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow expressed his ambition to represent Team USA in the 2028 Olympics during the inaugural Fanatics Flag Football Classic. Flag football is included in the Olympic program for the first time, and the NFL has approved participation for active players. Burrow stated, "I've always wanted to play in the Olympics... the opportunity to win a gold medal (is) something that I've thought about — a moment like that — for a long time, since I was a kid. I think it would be something very special." During the event, Burrow showcased his competitive spirit, throwing touchdown passes and nearly running for another. His team, the Wildcats, finished the round robin with a 1-2 record. Despite an early interception return for a touchdown, Burrow made impressive plays, including a near-touchdown run where he skillfully avoided contact. In a notable moment, Burrow was taken down near the 1-yard line after catching a pass from Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders. He sought a penalty for contact from Team USA’s defense but was denied a whistle. With nearly two years until the Olympics, the Team USA roster remains undecided, and not all spots are expected to be filled by NFL players. Darrell "Housh" Doucette, a quarterback for USA Football's national team, emphasized the need for fair treatment during roster selections. He expressed frustration over the perception that amateur players were being overlooked, stating, "The flag guys deserve their opportunity." Doucette led his team to a 3-0 round robin record, highlighting the skill of amateur athletes competing against NFL players. He remarked, "We're definitely open to all competition. If those guys come in and ball out and they're better than us, hats off to them. Go win that gold medal for our country."
