Wolves Face Injury Woes as Trippier and Mosquera Set for Extended Absences
Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed that right-back Kieran Trippier sustained a knee ligament injury during his league debut. The club announced that the former England international suffered a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in his left knee during Friday's 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers. The 35-year-old is expected to be sidelined for "a number of weeks" after joining the club on a free transfer in June. In addition to Trippier's injury, fellow defender Yerson Mosquera is also set for a spell on the sidelines. The 25-year-old picked up a slight tear in his ankle ligaments against Blackburn and is expected to miss several weeks of action. On a more positive note, Wolves director of performance, Phil Hayward, provided updates on winger Rafiki Said. The 26-year-old summer signing had suffered a "high-grade" injury to his MCL during a pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United last month, just 11 days after joining the club. Hayward noted that Rafiki has been making progress and is now out of his brace, with recent scans indicating he is heading in the right direction. Additionally, Hayward confirmed that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is a week away from full fitness, while Haiti international midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is expected to take a couple more weeks before returning to first-team training.
