Lamar Jackson Kicks Off Ravens' Offseason Workouts Under New Coach Minter

The NFL season may still be five months away, but the Baltimore Ravens secured an unofficial win as Lamar Jackson attended the first day of the team's voluntary offseason workout program. This marks a significant development under new head coach Jesse Minter, as Jackson's participation indicates a positive shift for the franchise. With the Ravens transitioning from the stability of former head coach John Harbaugh, Jackson faces a new challenge, learning an offense led by former Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. Minter expressed optimism about Jackson's enthusiasm for the offseason changes, stating, "I know Lamar's excited -- I think he is excited about some of the changes." Last offseason, Jackson skipped eight of the Ravens' nine voluntary workouts, which raised eyebrows given his contract situation. He had previously forfeited $750,000 in workout bonuses due to similar absences. However, Jackson's impressive resume as a two-time MVP and three-time first-team All-Pro speaks to his ability to perform regardless of offseason participation. As Jackson attends workouts, he remains in pursuit of a new contract. The Ravens recently restructured his deal to create nearly $40 million in cap space, yet an extension is still pending. Currently, Jackson's five-year, $260 million contract, which ends after the 2027 season, ranks as the ninth-richest among quarterbacks at $52 million per year. In addition to Jackson, newly acquired pass rusher Trey Hendrickson also participated in the workouts, signaling a collective effort among Ravens players to embrace the upcoming season.
