Jed York Faces Legal Troubles After Arrest in Ohio for Disorderly Conduct
Jed York, co-owner of Leeds United and Rangers, was arrested in Ohio over the weekend, pleading no contest to misdemeanour charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. Court records reveal that he was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, but this was later amended by prosecutors. York's arrest occurred on Sunday morning at a mobile home community in East Palestine, Ohio, his hometown. He was apprehended for using his phone in response to an undercover online prostitution advertisement. Following his arrest, York posted a $5,000 bond and was subsequently sentenced to one day in jail for both offences, to be served concurrently, with credit for one day already served at his plea hearing on Monday morning. Additionally, he was fined $1,150. As part of his plea agreement, York had his cell phone returned and agreed to forfeit $160 to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. He also completed an online course related to the charges. Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino emphasized that most prostitution cases generally conclude with plea agreements, depending on various factors such as the evidence provided and the defendant's criminal history. York's 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers, owns Leeds United and is part of the consortium that acquired a majority stake in Rangers last summer, although York is not listed among the club's board members. Both Leeds United and Rangers have declined to comment on the situation. The NFL has acknowledged the arrest and will review the incident under its personal conduct policy, which could result in potential fines or suspensions for owners violating the guidelines.
