Leeds United Finalizes £8.5m Deal for Nico Elvedi Ahead of Medical

Leeds United has secured an £8.5m agreement to sign Swiss defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach. The 29-year-old is heading to England for a medical on Monday, following the acceptance of an initial offer of £6.8m, complemented by an additional £1.7m in performance-related add-ons. This transfer marks the end of Elvedi's 11-year tenure with the German club, as he prepares to join Leeds at Elland Road. His extensive experience includes earning 73 caps for Switzerland and participating in the recent World Cup. Leeds manager Daniel Farke addressed the deal after a 4-0 pre-season victory over Augsburg, emphasizing the importance of completing medical checks and paperwork before making any official announcements. He stated: "I've been working in football long enough to know everything is only final once the medical checks are completed and all the paperwork is signed. We've seen situations like this before." Farke added that he anticipates developments within the next 48 hours. Additionally, this move could facilitate fringe Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw's loan transfer to Hamburg, which includes an option to buy.
