Luke Littler began his journey for qualifying prize money in the Players Championship with a modest performance, reaching the quarter-finals of the 27th event. As the world number one, Littler opted to skip lower-profile floor events this year to focus on managing his schedule effectively. In pursuit of a clean sweep of major titles in 2026, qualifying for the Players Championship finals is crucial. With only eight floor events remaining before the finals weekend in November, he faces a pressing challenge to accumulate enough prize money. The top 64 players qualify for Minehead, with the projected cut-off exceeding £30,000 after all 34 events. During his initial outing, Littler managed to earn just £4,000, after a tough quarter-final match against Jermaine Wattimena, where he narrowly lost 6-5. Wattimena secured his victory with a remarkable 115 checkout in the deciding leg. Littler aimed to maximize his earnings with minimal appearances, knowing the winner of each event takes home £15,000. With another event scheduled in Leicester on Wednesday, the 19-year-old hoped to secure the majority of his winnings within 48 hours. Despite his dislike for floor events, Littler demonstrated determination as he progressed through the rounds, defeating Archie Self (6-2), Arno Merk (6-3), and William O’Connor (6-3) before facing Chris Dobey, whom he decisively beat 6-0. However, Wattimena proved to be a significant hurdle, ultimately winning the event by defeating Kevin Doets 8-6 in the final.
