Jeremy Doku Commits to Man City as Nico Gonzalez Eyes Future Stability
Winger Jeremy Doku has solidified his commitment to Manchester City by signing a new contract that extends until 2031. The Belgium international, who joined City from Rennes for £55.4 million in 2023, played a crucial role last season, featuring 48 times and scoring eight goals, contributing to the team's triumphs in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup under Pep Guardiola. Doku's contract extension marks him as the fourth player from City to secure a new deal this summer, joining Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, and Abdukodir Khusanov. Meanwhile, Nico Gonzalez, who joined City from Porto for £50 million last January, expressed his desire to remain at the club despite having faced challenges securing a consistent starting position. The 24-year-old made 41 appearances last season and notably scored the decisive goal in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton. In his own words, Gonzalez stated, "I'm happy here. I don't want to leave and I think the club wants me to stay." He emphasized his commitment to contributing to the team's success, stating, "My dream is to win trophies. If we win the Champions League next year, I will be so happy." As of early August, City has signed only one player, Elliot Anderson, for a club-record fee of £116 million, anticipated to fill the gap left by Bernardo Silva’s departure to Real Madrid. New manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the need for further transfers, indicating a relaxed yet strategic approach to the transfer window. With potential departures looming, including Rodri attracting interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, City is prepared to seek replacements. Interest has emerged in Chelsea’s Pedro Neto and ongoing discussions are in place for Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille and Geronimo Rulli from Marseille.
