Manchester United Emerges as Front-Runner for Mateus Fernandes Amidst Relegation Woes

Manchester United is currently leading the pursuit of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. The talented midfielder has also attracted attention from other top clubs including Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, but United has made the most significant early moves to enhance Michael Carrick’s squad. West Ham is aiming to secure £80m for Fernandes, but their recent relegation from the Premier League may force them to reconsider their asking price. The club reported a loss of £104.2m last year and needs to generate over £100m in transfer sales this summer. Having joined West Ham from Southampton for £38m last summer, Fernandes is viewed as one of their key assets, capturing the interest of numerous elite teams. United is eager to strengthen their midfield following Casemiro’s departure on a free transfer and has already signed Éderson from Atalanta. Reports suggest that United is the most likely destination for Fernandes should he transfer to another English club. However, there is caution regarding a potential bid from Real Madrid, especially after the club reappointed José Mourinho as their manager, posing a threat to United's ambitions. Arsenal believes that West Ham's asking price for Fernandes is excessive, while Manchester United appears more optimistic. They have shown interest in Elliot Anderson but may be outmatched by Manchester City in that pursuit, making Fernandes a more viable option. Following their drop into the Championship, West Ham is expected to lose several key players, with interest mounting in Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, who could see increased demand if he performs well at the World Cup. Additionally, Taty Castellanos, the Argentinian striker, is a possible target for Everton.
