Moses Itauma Set for Heavyweight Clash with Filip Hrgovic at O2 Arena

British heavyweight Moses Itauma is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown against Filip Hrgovic on 29 August at London’s O2 Arena. This fight marks a pivotal moment in Itauma's career as he steps into the spotlight following an impressive victory over Jermaine Franklin in March, which improved his record to 14-0 and allowed him to retain the WBA International and WBO Inter-Continental titles. Promoter Frank Warren emphasized the significance of this matchup, stating, "This fight is the litmus test Moses is ready for and it is the one he wanted." Filip Hrgovic, the 34-year-old Croatian bronze medalist from the 2016 Olympics, holds a professional record of 21-1. He recently stopped Dave Allen in Doncaster and specifically called for a fight with the southpaw Itauma. Both fighters are positioned at the top of the WBO rankings, with Itauma ranked first and Hrgovic second. The victor at the O2 Arena will earn the opportunity to challenge for Daniel Dubois' WBO belt. Hrgovic's sole defeat occurred against Dubois in June 2024, but he has since rebounded with victories over notable British fighters including Joe Joyce, David Adeleye, and Allen.
