Knicks Owner James Dolan Urges Players to Abstain from Sex for Title Run

The New York Knicks’ pursuit of their first NBA championship in 53 years may have included an unexpected request from owner James Dolan. In a recent video from the Roommates Show podcast, Dolan urged players to consider abstaining from sex during what he predicted would be a 10-week journey toward the title, emphasizing the need for sacrifice. During a surprise speech on April 3, Dolan suggested, "I had this idea that maybe you should give up sex for the next 10 weeks... The Spartans, they denied themselves, right, so they can have an edge. Get the edge." His remarks were part of a broader appeal for commitment as the playoffs approached. Dolan expressed the significance of the moment, stating, "This team can win it all... It would be life-changing for all of you." At that point, the Knicks had five regular-season games left, eventually winning four of them before dominating the postseason with a 16-3 record, culminating in a victory over the San Antonio Spurs in five games to secure the franchise's first title since 1973. While Dolan's comments gained traction, he framed them within a message of discipline, urging players to improve their diets, prioritize sleep, and eliminate distractions. He also recognized the need for support from players' families, advising them to discuss the commitment required for the championship run. "Go home, talk to your wives... but let them know what this commitment is going to be like," he added. Although reactions varied, head coach Mike Brown made it clear he wouldn’t be following Dolan's advice at home, stating, "There was no way that I could get that done." The extent to which players adhered to Dolan’s recommendation remains uncertain.
