Pogacar Faces Investigation for Running Red Light at Tour of Flanders

Tadej Pogacar is under investigation after allegedly running a red light at a railway crossing during the Tour of Flanders on Sunday. This incident occurred as he and a group of riders passed through the crossing without stopping, while the majority of the peloton had to halt. Belgian officials confirmed the investigation on Monday, noting that further details are yet to be released. Reports suggest that if found guilty, the riders could face: Fines ranging from €320 to €4,000 (£279 to £3,487) A potential driving ban of eight days Pogacar, who rides for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, expressed his concern after the race, stating that the signal to stop was given too late. He remarked, "Suddenly three guys jump on the middle of the road and start waving to stop. How can you stop in one second?" He suggested that the authorities could have prevented the situation by giving earlier signals. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office is reportedly pursuing prosecution against the involved riders. Following the incident, race officials instructed those who passed the signal to slow down, allowing the rest of the peloton to catch up. Known as De Ronde, the Tour of Flanders is one of cycling’s most prestigious one-day races, first held in 1913. This year's route spanned 278km (172.7 miles), featuring 16 challenging climbs and numerous cobblestone sections, solidifying its status as a cycling monument alongside events like Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix.
