York Revolution Forfeits Game Over Players' Refusal to Wear Pride Jerseys

A professional baseball team has made headlines after York Revolution forfeited a game due to several players' refusal to wear Pride jerseys. This decision came during the club’s 11th annual Pride Night, scheduled for Thursday against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The Revolution had planned for players to don uniforms featuring rainbow sleeves to celebrate inclusivity. However, the team announced that hosting the event took precedence over enforcing uniform compliance. They stated: "Unfortunately, several of our players have refused to wear the scheduled Pride Night jersey and the club decided that hosting the event is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with and playing the game." As a result, the game on June 18 was canceled, but the celebration of Pride continued, transforming the night into a “free and fun celebration of recognition and inclusion” at WellSpan Park. The York Revolution and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs compete in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, which operates independently of major league affiliations. The players' hesitance to don the Pride jerseys reflects broader tensions within the sport, especially considering the recent controversy involving Major League Baseball. Earlier this week, MLB criticized players who inscribed Bible verses on their Pride Night hats, following incidents during a San Francisco Giants game where pitchers Landen Roupp and JT Brubaker made similar gestures.
