Robert MacIntyre Stays Focused Amid Criticism Following Masters Outburst

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre remains unfazed by backlash over his behavior at the Masters while acknowledging the need to manage his emotions more effectively. The 29-year-old golfer, who missed the cut at the prestigious event with rounds of 80 and 71, faced scrutiny after directing a middle-finger gesture at the 15th green following a quadruple bogey in his opening round. Additionally, he expressed frustration by slamming his club into the ground on the 17th hole and was overheard swearing by on-course microphones. His social media activity further drew attention when he posted a mocked-up image of a gnome resembling himself, also giving the middle finger. According to the Press Association, officials from Augusta National reprimanded MacIntyre for his actions during the tournament. In his return to the PGA Tour at the RBC Heritage, MacIntyre rebounded with an impressive five-under 66, placing him three shots behind leader Ludvig Aberg. Reflecting on his Masters experience, MacIntyre stated, "I know what I did isn't the best way of me doing things, but I wear my heart on my sleeve." He emphasized his efforts to control his emotions, mentioning, "I work with someone back home. There was a lot going on and [I am] disappointed with that." Despite the criticism, he affirmed, "I'm very good at putting things behind me; things that get said elsewhere don't faze me." This determination to move forward highlights his resilience as he continues to navigate the pressures of professional golf.
