Sávio Joins Spurs in Record £75m Transfer from Manchester City
Savinho has officially completed his £75m transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from Manchester City, marking a significant transition in his career as he adopts the name Sávio. This move not only underscores a new chapter for the Brazilian winger but also sets a record sale for Manchester City, who originally acquired him from Troyes in 2024 for £30.8m. The total transfer fee could rise by an additional £10m in performance-related add-ons. With this acquisition, Tottenham has now spent a staggering £304.5m this summer, and they show no signs of stopping. The club is reportedly close to signing Omar Marmoush from City for between £50m and £75m, and they are also monitoring Cody Gakpo from Liverpool. After a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Brentford on the opening weekend of the Premier League, Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi emphasized the need for more offensive power. Sávio, who prefers playing on the right wing, aims to utilize his strong left foot to cut inside and create scoring opportunities. In his previous season at City, Sávio recorded three goals and 13 assists across all competitions, with 10 assists coming in the Premier League. However, his performance dipped last season, tallying four goals and three assists. Sávio expressed his enthusiasm about joining Spurs, stating, "It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here. As soon as I spoke to the head coach, I knew I had to come." De Zerbi praised Sávio's abilities, highlighting his energy, creativity, and capacity to change the game from wide positions.
