Teenage Talent Tyler Fletcher Joins Scotland's World Cup Squad After Gilmour's Injury

Scotland has officially called up Tyler Fletcher, a teenage midfielder from Manchester United, to replace the injured Billy Gilmour in their World Cup squad. Billy Gilmour suffered a knee injury during a friendly match against Curacao at Hampden Park, leading to his withdrawal from head coach Steve Clarke’s 26-man selection on Saturday evening. In Gilmour's absence, the 19-year-old Fletcher, who made a notable debut as a half-time substitute in the 4-1 victory over Curacao, steps into the squad. Fletcher, whose twin brother Jack chose to represent England, was among four players added to the training squad last week by Clarke. He is also the son of former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, who earned 80 caps for Scotland between 2003 and 2017. Clarke expressed his disappointment regarding Gilmour's injury, stating, "I am devastated for Billy because he has been an integral part of our World Cup qualifying campaign. The timing of this injury is so, so cruel and we all feel for him. He knows what we all think of him as a footballer and a person, and while no words will give him any comfort, I am certain Billy will have many major tournaments ahead of him in the future."
