Hearts find themselves in a challenging position, trailing 4-0 on aggregate in their Champions League second round qualifier against Sturm Graz. They are likely to drop into the third round of Europa League qualifying, where Rangers have already been drawn against Jagiellonia Bialystok from Poland. The only scenario in which Hearts could avoid a play-off is by overcoming Sturm Graz on aggregate and subsequently losing in the third round of Champions League qualifying, which would allow them to enter the Europa League league phase directly. Motherwell and Hibernian are currently engaged in their Conference League second round qualifying ties, with their league matches postponed only if they progress to the play-offs. Motherwell leads 2-0 on aggregate against HB from the Faroe Islands, while Hibernian trails 0-2 against Malisheva from Kosovo. The rearranged matches will take place in midweek on either 8/9 or 15/16 September.
