Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Faces Injury Scans After Stormers' Victory Over Cardiff

South Africa fly half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is set to undergo scans on a serious ankle injury sustained during the Stormers' 44-21 victory over Cardiff at DHL Stadium. While the Cape Town club advanced to the semi-finals of the United Rugby Championship, the win may have come at a significant cost. Feinberg-Mngomezulu was injured while scoring a try and was later seen on crutches. Head coach John Dobson expressed concern about the injury, stating, “It looks pretty serious, to be honest. He’s obviously going for a scan... it looks like a proper ankle injury.” He noted that Feinberg-Mngomezulu was cramping before the injury, which raised alarms about his condition. Dobson acknowledged the gravity of the situation, saying, “It’s a big blow... We’ve lost probably the most in-form young player in world rugby the week before a semi-final.” Despite the setback, he remains hopeful about the resilience of the squad, citing Jurie Matthee's performance and the team's fighting spirit. The 24-year-old has become one of world rugby’s standout talents, solidifying his position as South Africa's No 10 during an impressive 2025 season. His potential absence poses a significant challenge for Rassie Erasmus ahead of a crucial year featuring the Nations Championship and a series against New Zealand. The Springboks kick off their Nations Championship campaign against England in Johannesburg on 4 July, also facing Wales and Scotland. Additionally, back rower Kwagga Smith is reportedly facing his own injury concerns with a serious knee issue. Looking ahead, the Stormers will face Leinster in their semi-final next Saturday, while the Glasgow Warriors prepare to host the Bulls.
