Historic Knicks Comeback Overshadows Spurs' Wembanyama Amid Fan Chaos

Game 4 of the NBA Finals has etched itself into history for multiple reasons. The New York Knicks staged the largest comeback (29 points) in Finals history, taking a 3-1 series lead and moving one step closer to their first championship in 53 years. Conversely, the San Antonio Spurs made headlines for their monumental collapse, squandering a significant lead and committing errors that could have leveled the series before heading into Game 5. The Knicks' victory ignited celebrations both inside Madison Square Garden and throughout New York City. However, not all responses were celebratory. Video footage surfaced showing Knicks fans throwing eggs at Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs' star, as he returned to his hotel post-game. One egg struck him on the head, prompting a swift reaction from team staff to usher him inside. When addressed about the incident, Wembanyama remained unfazed, stating, "I mean, I didn't really think much of it. I just saw that one video of the eggs. It's OK. I don't dislike it. Obviously, it's not good at all. But it doesn't bother me." Wembanyama also commented on reports of Knicks fans damaging the Spurs team bus, mentioning he was unaware of the specifics but noted, "We did hear some things, yeah. I have no idea. I think it was a bottle because it was, like, water on the bus." Tensions escalated in New York City, with videos showing altercations between Spurs and Knicks fans. Following Game 4, 56 arrests were made as jubilant fans celebrated the historic comeback. The New York Police Department emphasized their commitment to ensuring safe celebrations, noting, "This demonstrates exactly why the NYPD has increased our presence in and around Madison Square Garden." Game 5 is set to take place on Saturday night in San Antonio.
