Sisterly Strength: The Watsons Gear Up for Hyrox World Championships in Sweden

Hannah and Aimee Watson, two sisters from Cardiff, are set to compete in the Hyrox World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden. Balancing their teaching careers with athletic aspirations, the siblings inspire each other as they prepare for this prestigious event. Aimee, 25, discovered Hyrox two years ago while seeking a fitness outlet during the off-season of her football career. A former goalkeeper for Wales' Under-19s, she also played cricket at the same level. Transitioning from sports like football to Hyrox was a unique challenge, but it was the sport that truly captivated her when she introduced it to her younger sister Hannah, 22. "Competing as sisters ignites a flame within you," Aimee shared with BBC Sport Wales. After her first solo competition in London, she encouraged Hannah to join her for doubles. Their efforts paid off, culminating in a first-place finish in their age group at the Manchester Hyrox in 2024, which secured them a spot at the World Championships. In Chicago, the sisters finished 37th in their age group with a time of 1:03:56. Aimee emphasized the importance of dedication, stating, "The training is about the process, putting in the yards every day." For the upcoming championships, their ambitious goal is to finish under one hour. "If we don't achieve that, we'll keep pushing for it and aim for next year's big competitions," Hannah remarked. They aspire to podium again and qualify for the 2027 Hyrox World Championships, fueled by their unwavering commitment to the sport.
