West Indies Opt for Commercial Flights Home After T20 World Cup Exit in India

The West Indies cricket team is set to return home via commercial flights from India after a "distressing" wait following their elimination from the men's T20 World Cup. The team has been stranded in Kolkata since their exit on 1 March, facing travel disruptions attributed to ongoing conflicts across the Middle East. The International Cricket Council (ICC) was expected to arrange a charter flight for both the West Indies and South Africa, but Cricket West Indies (CWI) reported that these plans had been "repeatedly delayed." CWI commented on the situation, stating: "Ongoing uncertainty surrounding the ICC-organised charter, due to global tensions and aviation regulations, made the situation increasingly distressing." "In the interest of the wellbeing and safety of its players and support staff, Cricket West Indies advised the ICC that it was no longer prudent to continue waiting on the charter arrangements, which remain uncertain." In light of these challenges, CWI has actively sought commercial travel options to ensure the squad's safe return. Some players and staff have already departed, with the remaining members scheduled to leave on Tuesday and Wednesday. The ICC has faced criticism from players of both the West Indies and South Africa for their failure to effectively address the travel issues, leaving the teams in a precarious situation.
